Social Newsletter – Week 4

The London Particular are coming to take over the Social kitchen from February 13th.

You can expect a whole new menu at the bar, lunch time specials, a separate evening menu, brilliant food to eat in or takeaway.  Fear not, Square Pie’s will still be available!

The London Particular At The Social

For a short time, the fine people from The London Particular are going to be taking up residence in our kitchen and radically shaking up the menu. If their brilliant cafe in New Cross is anything to go by then this is sure to be an absolute treat.

Over lunch time and dinner you’ll be able to enjoy the likes of Beef, Kernel & Bramley stew, Pork Belly Rolls, Jerusalem Artichoke and Ginger Soup and Homemade Sourdough Doughnuts – eat in or takeaway!

Sunday 5th February

SUPER BOWL PARTY

The Social is proud to once again host its London Super Bowl 2012 party in aid of Shelter.

From 8pm enjoy DJs and entertainment, before attention goes to the big screen for all the build up at 11 with kick off at 11.30. Full commentary – and Madonna’s half time show – will be played through the venue’s massive sound system, so you can be sure not to miss a thing.

This event has sold out both years it has run in the past – so buy tickets now. Limited tickets will be held back for the door, but will cost £10.

Monday 6th Febraury

FABER SOCIAL

The Faber Social returns with a stunning line-up of spring fiction and non-fiction.

With special guests:

JON MCGREGOR, ALEX PRESTON, LUCY CALDWELL, JANE HARRIS

Jon McGregor, one of the UK’s top five short story writers, reads from his collection This Isn’t the Sort of Thing That Happens to Someone Like You.  Alex Preston, whose prizewinning first novel This Bleeding City tackled the financial crisis, now turns to money, sex and religion for inspiration in The Revelations, also published in February.  Lucy Caldwell reads from her novel The Meeting Point, recent winner of the Dylan Thomas Prize.  And finally, Jane Harris, author of the hugely acclaimed The Observations, will read from her second novel Gillespie and I, just out in paperback.

GOOD BLOCK

The Good Block launch in January was a road block from early doors until close, thank you to all 8 DJs that turned out and smashed it.

Bringing a new night to The Social every 2nd Friday of the month. The Good Block will blend Disco, Boogie, Hip Hop, House, Soul and Lazer Funk from the 70′s to the current day. Flying across New York, Chicago, Detroit, Kingston, London, Lagos and beyond. Each month’s line up will welcome a host of established club DJs who leave their current guises behind to do something left of centre. From The Gap Band to Big L to Kerri Chandler to Mr Vegas, come get deep.
