Never Too Much

Lulu ‘Princess’ Le Vay + Justin ‘Luther’ Quirk are back with NTM on Friday night. You can catch them on the third Friday of every month.

This will be a brilliant addition at an already legendary line up of upstairs DJs that we have week in week out.  I don’t talk about these guys enough on here, so here’s a roll call and shout to the one and only Mr Rive (every Saturday night), Mark and Matt aka Droyd and Fones who have been ever present behind that bar for years, keeping it very real (second and last Fridays), Mark and the whole amazing Neddledroppin crew every Thursday night, Jimmy Plates who is known for tearing the upstairs bar apart on the first Friday of every month and on Wednesday nights you can catch 1Xtra’s own Ronnie Herel bringing his Soulquariam vibe and Ian Pugh’s Mobile Library.

Social love goes out to all these people and the other DJs like Laura, Jamie and Mal (and anyone else who i have forgotten) who gets behind the bar every week and plays the best selection of music ever, often off vinyl and creates that special vibe.

Subsoul is the Saturday night party where Jazzie B, Spin Doctor and Chris P Cuts take turns each week to play an extended set of the finest Soul, Disco, Hip-Hop, House and other dance floor sounds old and new that have been keeping the place rocking every Saturday for the last 18 months.

Whether you walk in and find Soul II Soul’s Jazzie B behind the decks, or head honcho of The Doctor’s Orders, Spin Doctor (a London nightlife legend), or The Funhouse’s Chris P Cuts (one of the capitol’s most exciting young DJs), you will be guaranteed a proper party with an unpretentious crowd of happy people.

DJs on rotation each week:

Jazzie B: The original Funki Dred

Playing and making records since 1977, Jazzie is one of the few true international legends of modern soul music. With Soul II Soul he’s scored Number One hits all over the world; has won two Grammies and an Ivor Novello award; and received an OBE and the keys to no less than seven American cities – some states even celebrate a Soul II Soul Day. As busy now as he’s ever been, deejaying all over the world, and with a BBC London 94.9 radio show, SubSoul presents him with an opportunity to spin the records that played such a large part in his early success on the sound system scene.

Spin Doctor: The hardest working man in Hip-Hop.

The driving force behind The Doctor’s Orders, Spin has been promoting and rocking parties in London for longer than he might care to mention and while best known for his dedication to Hip-Hop his passion for all genres is undoubted and he is more than ready and willing to show the extent of his collection at this new night.

Chris P Cuts: Rising star.

Fast establishing himself as one of the most exciting DJs on the underground party scene Chris P will be expanding his reputation and experience with his first residency. Always fearless in the variety of his selection he will be building on his reputation week by week.

Mr Rive: One to watch

Having graduated from sets in the upstairs bar to warming up the main room of this fun packed weekly party Mr Rive is quickly showing his value with his soul drenched international flavour.

Schizodelic Sounds

Schizodelic Sound – Friday 27th April

Mixing Mods with Rockers, Punks with Proggers, Concrete Jungle with African Bush, Brazilian Nuggets with Turkish Delights, Sweet’n’Sour Krauts with Big Macs and Crisp Rappers with Cheesy Ravers any flavour is for the tasting. Based on a super tight blend of three amigos triple-teaming behind the decks The Schizodelic Sound shall make one shake thy rattle, rok ya Rolex and get on up to get on down. With much unexpected diggings alongside stone-cold classics from the most open book of musical revelry there is a sound for one and all to rejoice in!

Spear headed by DJ Guy C (Gorillaz Sound System and The Bees Tour DJ, throwing it down on the decks like a man possessed), Aaron Fletcher (The Bees main man, song writer and internationally treasured musical innovator) and Tim Rockins (Zombie Flesh Eater, mindblowing maximalist artist and graphical craftsman busting with the A to Z of sound).  It all adds up to the most ridiculously dope record box you’ve ever looked in, combined with Kaleidoscopically-psychephrenic lightshows, visuals and animated posters The Schizodelic Sound is here. Fundamentally with the  basic ideal of keeping the dance floor alive.
