This January (like every other January before it) The Social will be a safe haven for those who don’t give up drinking for a month.

2014 is the 15th year of The Social on Little Portland Street. The brainchild of a record company whose offshoots included a hugely successful underground club night, The Social was set up with a simple manifesto – to provide great music and better booze to anyone who fancied tripping through the doors. The Social has launched over a million hugely successful hangovers.

Join us for three special events featuring talks, demonstrations, tastings, music and of course drinking!

House Party People # 3 – Mumjeans + Muglife

image

What’s been your best party of the year so far?

Saturday nights at the Brewery Tap.  That fat DJ is massive.

Biggest track of 2013?

They stopped making good music in the late nineties. Everything that’s made now has been made before at least twice.

What can we expect from your NYE set at our House Party?

An eclectic mix of blah blah blah…..loads of r’n’b, rap and uk garage records that will make you tap your foot.  LL Cool J, Warren G, Aaliyah, Lucy Pearl, Sunshine Anderson, Chance The Rapper, Cocaine 80s, Foxy Brown, Ramsey & Fen, Tina Moore, Kristine Blonde, Tweet…

What have you got planned for 2014?

Tending to the rosebush.

What’s top tip for house parties?

Don’t get a DJ. Let everyone fight over the ipod lead, play half a shit tune before someone unplugs it and repeat

House Party People # 2 – Rob Pursey

AW13-55

Part two of our ‘House Party People’ series in the run up to our big NYE party.

Rob Pursey will need no introduction to anyone who has spent any time at The Social since it opened. Without question Rob has spent more hours than any other DJ playing records in the basement. Known to many as ‘London’s Greatest DJ’ he can be found every week at Hip Hop Karaoke and will be playing a special midnight set for us on the 31st December.

What’s been your best party of the year so far?

Our Players Ball parties at East Village this year were all pretty immense!

What’s your biggest track of 2013?

Paranoid – Ty Dolla $ign really sums up the year musically for me and is something I’ve played in every single DJ set.

What can we expect from your NYE set at our House Party ?

Straight turn up music for all ratchet thots.

What have you got planned for 2014?

In terms of parties we’re hosting our 3rd Anniversary of Players Ball at Plan B which is about to be epic! Hip Hop Karaoke weekly at The Social remains as amazing as ever and taking it on the road to all the festivals is always a highlight.

Music wise we’re releasing more music and mixtapes through Southern Hospitality and working with some of the most forward thinking rap and electronic music around and I’m confident our SXSW showcase line-up will be one for the ages.

What’s top tip for house parties?

Stake a claim on the kitchen, so you get to talk to everyone who has to come in to get drinks. Bring in extra sound.

Tell us about your best ever NYE

I don’t like to look back too much so I’m gonna project that this year’s NYE is gonna be the greatest!

. . You can see Rob on NYE, all the details below

House Party People # 1 – TK

TK

TK (Found A Cure / Special Request)

This is the first in a series of quick Q+As with some of our special guests on NYE.

TK is one half of both FAC and Special Request and can often be found at The Social drinking Guinness and hustling people off the decks.

What’s been your best party of the year so far?

It has to be the Special Request 1st Birthday Bash earlier this year; Wookie came down and smashed it, great vibes and all my friends were raving and having a good time. Just to think that a year before it was just an idea to get people together for the music we’re really into and still love is very inspiring.

Biggest track for you in 2013?

What can we expect from your NYE set at our House Party?

Good ol’ fashioned house and garage party jams.

What have you got planned for 2014?

Hopefully some more Found A Cure and Special Request parties but lets get NYE out of the way first.

What’s top tip for house parties?

Never ever run out of booze or the party is done for…

Tell us about your best ever NYE

The best ones are always a blur! I do remember playing a NYE jungle set at The Social with Stig of the Dump MCing. Completely random but the crowd was absolutely loving it. Surprised I can remember that really.

The Social Christmas Saturdays

SOCIAL-Christmas-banner

Christmas market and free afternoon gigs from two of the UK’s greatest independent record labels in December.

The Social’s Famous Christmas Saturdays return to Little Portland Street in December. This year there will be more booze, food and space to socialise and much more music too with free shows in the basement from acts on Rough Trade (14th) and Heavenly (21st).

The market, as ever, will happen in the upstairs bar at The Social and stalling out for your delight each week will be the essential nature and culture website Caught by the River and their spectacular shop filled with books, maps, badges, records, limited edition screen prints from, amongst others, Stanley Donwood and David Chatton Barker as well as exclusives from their cupboard. They’ll be joined by a couple of guest stalls each week and this year we’ll be leaving a booth or two free for people to come and sit down down and enjoy our food and drink.

The doors will be open between 12pm and 5.30pm, entry is free and with a fully stocked bar including a selection of ales, our homemade mulled wine, hot cider, Bloody Marys, hearty food, impromptu DJ sets and outbreaks of festivity – we invite you to come down our chimney where a very warm welcome is once again guaranteed.

Guest stalls this year will include Faber Social, Andrews and the Empress of Arcadia, Clay Pipe, Heavenly Recordings and more.

Email carl@thesocial.com for more info, press enquiries to enquire about booking one of the booths for you and your friends to eat and drink.

The diary is now open for Christmas bookings at The Social

You can host your Christmas party at the bar. Hire out the basement (very limited availability in December) for parties up to 150 people, or the upstairs bar for smaller groups – both floors have their own DJ booths and PAs.

If you’re planning something a little smaller then drop us a line, we can give you a booth or a few tables most days of the week.
