How To Do Hip Hop Karaoke

All you need to know about Hip Hop Karaoke and how to get signed up including a full song list. If there is something you want to do that isn’t up there then drop Rob a line.

“London’s like a jungle sometimes but nights like this will keep you from going under!” Time Out

Putting a fresh twist on the ancient art of karaoke, HHK Lets you get on the mic and act out your rap fantasies to the fullest, whether that includes teaming up with friends to rock through a Wu-Tang jam, living the lyrical highlife like Jay-Z or Drake, bawsin it like Rick Ross, celebrating summertime with The Fresh Prince or acting all crazy like Nicki Minaj or Ol Dirty Bastard. You can now find HHK every Thursday at The Social.  It’s no exaggeration to say that this is a legendary night out and you’d be crazy not to get there early.

Doors are 7pm sharp every Thursday night – arrive early as it does get busy from the off. £5 entry.

HIP-HOP KARAOKE LONDON SONG LIST + SIGN UP GUIDE

1. Look over the list of songs below and select the most appealing/entertaining/challenging.

2. Come to the sign-up table near the DJ booth and add your name to the list – remember that it’s first come first performing, so don’t leave it too late to add your name to the list!

3. All performances are over instrumental versions of the songs and full lyric sheets are provided for all performers (if needed).

4. Find yourself lost while rhyming along? Look behind you and the deejay Rob Pursey will help you get back on track.

5. Each performer gets a post-performance prize of a free bottle of Sagres beer!

6. The best performer on the night gets a goodie bag full of CDs (kindly donated by the good karaoke loving people over at Lewis Recordings).

7. Lose yourself!

“The Social is one of my favourite places, now I’ve got even more reason to spend some time there – soy milk, no sugar please”Tim Burgess

TP

Tim Peaks started on Twitter with Tim’s daily call of “Morning tweets x coffee?”. He’s gone on to create his own fairtrade coffee blend and taken it to festivals around the country, combining great music and a good cuppa in a field with all profits going to the David Lynch Foundation. The Social is delighted to now bring this brilliant idea to London for the first time and will be serving daily for both drinking in the bar and takeaway – check out the Pete Fowler takeaway cups!

Found A Cure is TK (Special Request) and Carl (Heavenly Jukebox)

Since their original Social night out, Broader Than Broadway ended many years ago this has become their occasional party where they get together to play house, disco, afrobeat, garage and other electronic music. This will be their first time back at The Social together.

The Heavenly Jukebox is Heavenly Recordings very own DJ collective, getting together throughout the summer to play at festivals around the country. This year they have already played at Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Isle of Wight, Green Man, V and will also be heading to Bestival and No.6 in September.

Special Request have been putting on some of London’s best undergound garage nights in recent years. Starting out life as a closed shop Facebook group for people to share music, they have gone on to host some special parties every few months and regular sessions on NTS radio from resident DJs TK and Louis Not Lewis

Join TK and Carl on Friday from 7pm

In the meantime here’s a mix that Carl put together for the Bestimix series early in the year

Every Wednesday Night

HEAT022_hww_eflyer_final

Hot Wuk Wednesdays is the weekly bashment dance spot, The Heatwave’s bashment headquarters.

What is bashment? Bashment is the ultra hype sound of modern Jamaican music: the excitement of rewinds, incredible dancing, the rammed dance floor and amazing vibe of a Caribbean rave.

The Heatwave’s midweek party turns The Social basement into a mini Notting Hill Carnival. Get rum drunk and collect your free whistle and horn, you might see the most incredibly acrobatic dance move or hear the wickedest MC jumping on the mic. One thing is certain: the vibe will be INSANE. 100% smiling, 100% dancing, 100% big tunes.

Every Wednesday we rave like it’s a Saturday!
