+ more to be announced
The fourth in our series presenting up-and-coming acts sees Czech pop star Albert Cerney, the charismatic front man of Lake Malawi, make a rare London appearance with other members of Lake Malawi, plus award winning young Czech Singer Maella and host DJ Ben Osborne.
Albert Cerny formed Lake Malawi in 2013 and they soon became stars on the Czech alternative pop scene.
Tonight Albert and his band members fly into London for a rare appearance having just played one of Prague’s oldest town squares for events marking 100 years since the end of WW1 and the creation of the Czech nation. Amongst the band’s many highlights, Lake Malawi have appeared alongside Thirty Seconds to Mars and The Kooks, played at The Great Escape in 2015 and in 2017 and performed their debut eight-date tour of England (including a sold-out London show). Lake Malawi released their first full-length debut album, entitled Surrounded By Light, in November 2017. They’ve played at major festivals and their sound is influenced by Indie, early Brit Pop and baggy Manchester bands.
Maella is a talented 21 year old at the start of a promising career. She won Best Alternative Song at the TAIS Awards in Prague and is currently studying music in London. Already a rising star in Prague, she has just started turning heads in the UK, having appeared at several festivals this summer, while recording with her own band and and an indie EBM project with Ben Osborne.
Host DJ Ben Osborne is the founder of Noise of Art. The Guardian describes Noise of Art as an “actual cathedral of sound” and Time Out says his sets span “techno, funk, galactic house, deep down and dirty disco and other dancefloor dynamite”.
