On Tuesday evening we'll be hosting a party to celebrate the release of the new book by Tim Burgess, 'Telling Stories' which is out on April 26th

On Tuesday evening we’ll be hosting a party to celebrate the release of the new book by Tim Burgess, ‘Telling Stories’ which is out on April 26th.

There will be some readings and guest DJs on the night.

This is an invite only event but we have a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky winner.

To win pop me an email and let me know what your favourite story is . .

‘Tim Burgess grew up in rural Cheshire but from his mid-teens he spent as much time as he could at the legendary Hacienda in Manchester. He was invited to be the vocalist in newly formed The Charlatans, who went from supporting The Stone Roses to having three UK number one albums and seventeen Top Thirty singles. They rode the waves of first Madchester then Britpop. The band survived the imprisonment of influential keyboardist Rob Collins on a charge of armed robbery, then the death of Collins in a car accident; their accountant running off with all their money and leaving them with a tax bill of almost £2 million; and in more recent years the rock ‘n’ roll life-style of Burgess himself as he took himself off to LA, for the music and the drugs.’

Packed with incredible stories, this frank and vivid memoir describes the mad life of a rock star: the dynamics of the band, the creativity and the self-destruction, the sex and the drugs but also the rock ‘n roll – his obsession with music shines off the page as he writes about his influences and his encounters, from Dylan to New Order, from Paul Weller to Oasis.

Mixing Mods with Rockers, Punks with Proggers, Concrete Jungle with African Bush, Brazilian Nuggets with Turkish Delights . .

Another chance to get down and check out the new Friday night residency from three of our favourite new DJs . .

DJs: GUY C, AARON FLETCHER + TIM ROCKINS

Mixing Mods with Rockers, Punks with Proggers, Concrete Jungle with African Bush, Brazilian Nuggets with Turkish Delights, Sweet’n’Sour Krauts with Big Macs and Crisp Rappers with Cheesy Ravers any flavour is for the tasting. Based on a super tight blend of three amigos triple-teaming behind the decks The Schizodelic Sound shall make one shake thy rattle, rok ya Rolex and get on up to get on down. With much unexpected diggings alongside stone-cold classics from the most open book of musical revelry there is a sound for one and all to rejoice in!

Spear headed by DJ Guy C (Gorillaz Sound System and The Bees Tour DJ, throwing it down on the decks like a man possessed), Aaron Fletcher (The Bees main man, song writer and internationally treasured musical innovator) and Tim Rockins (Zombie Flesh Eater, mindblowing maximalist artist and graphical craftsman busting with the A to Z of sound). It all adds up to the most ridiculously dope record box you’ve ever looked in, combined with Kaleidoscopically-psychephrenic lightshows, visuals and animated posters The Schizodelic Sound is here. Fundamentally with the basic ideal of keeping the dance floor alive.

A brand new Friday night party with Anna Greenwood (Guilty Pleasures) and friends

With Anna Greenwood (Guilty Pleasures) and guests.

Start the weekend with a basement bash of Friday night frolicking as Anna and friends bring you pop, rock, disco and a dollop of good old fashioned fun.

Dancing positively encouraged.

Everyone knows Friday night is the best night of the week. It’s a simple fact. Why else is do we thank Crunchie it is Friday? There aren’t any American themed diners serving enticing fat-congealed platters of fried orange foods called T.G.I. Tuesday are there? Even old misery faced King Goth Robert Smith declared he was in love with Friday. But he also used to rob his mum’s lippy and his hair is a right sight so maybe he isn’t the best ambassador for this.

Anna Greenwood (Guilty Pleasures resident dj / singer and show off) will instead be our Friday ambassador henceforth and is here to start your weekend the way it’s meant to – with music, dancing and good old-fashioned FUN all in the underground hedonists hang out that is the Social at the Friday Night Disco!

Flinging themselves about behind the decks, Anna and February’s guest Lulu le Vay will be playing pop, rock, disco, 80s soul and records that you know all the words to that sound even better after a pint.

Feel the work woe slip away as a jukebox of joy gets your weekend off to a super start and have you dancing your shoes off, punching the air with glee and singing all the all the way home on the night bus much to the delight of your fellow passengers.

Come and join us on Friday 17th for a right good knees up and disco dancing good times!

Sonic Cathedral presents Fairewell and Crushed Beaks

According to this week’s NME, word is that Fairewell’s Johnny White is talking about quitting live shows. All the more reason to grab tickets for his show at the bar on Feb 13th!

Sonic Cathedral – Monday 13th Feb

Live:

FAIREWELL

+ CRUSHED BEAKS

Fairewell’s second ever headline show and third gig in total following his hugely acclaimed debut album, ‘Poor, Poor Grendel’, which was released on Sonic Cathedral Recordings late last year. Fairewell is Johnny White, originally from Sheffield, now based in north London. He makes music that is both grandiose and introspective and claims to be influenced by Popol Vuh, cLOUDDEAD and The Black Heart Procession, but we can hear The Radio Dept, M83 and a whole lot more as well. Live he is joined by Joe Daniel (Angular) on bass and Josh Alexander on drums for something that is a lot heavier – comparisons have been made to Flying Saucer Attack.

Crushed Beaks, New London-based duo who combine full-on noise with melody, texture and atmosphere. Their debut single ‘Close-Ups’ / ‘Sun Dogs’ was released on Too Pure last November and was one of the year’s most promising new releases.

Plus guest DJ Pete Gofton and cult films
