Joe Dilworth

To coincide with the forthcoming book, ‘Grass To Gaze’, we are excited to announce that there will be an exhibition of Joe Dilworth’s incredible photos of Slough Festival 1991 at The Social from October 27 to November 27. The festival has become known as the “shoegaze Woodstock” thanks to a line-up that included Ride, Curve, Slowdive and Revolver and Joe’s photos record the goings on both on and off stage.

Entry to the exhibition is free and the opening night launch party on Wednesday, October 27 will feature DJ sets from Pye Corner Audio and Maps. The same night we also have Sennen and Mildred Maude playing downstairs and tickets for that are on sale now.

“I was shooting for Melody Maker that day, but as I shot about 10 rolls I don’t think I would have broken even on the job,” says Joe. “A live picture would normally pay about 40 quid, so I was really doing it for myself.

“I’d seen most of these bands playing in pubs a year or so before, so it was amazing to see them before such a big crowd. Pretty soon after though, everyone was on tour all over the world, so in retrospect this felt like the last time we all got to hang out together.”
