cruush
“I guess you can say our music has the sweet elements of having a crush on someone but the screeching of an industrial car crusher.” states vocalist & front person Amber Warren. And she’s bob on. cruush do have a melodic front. One that sounds like manufacturing error of prettiness. Corrosive. Half-melted. Spewing a destabilizing grunginess. So intense it creates a kind of paralysis. But the core IP is formed when Amber’s darkwave nursery rhymes of dead-eyed dreamstate meet the white-knuckle tension ofArthur Boyd’s elliptical guitar. Tones muscular enough to administer compound fractures rage a cold war on the ears. Textures move in and out of phase, pluming for miles, drone-laced and magnificent.
Freshly signed to indie darlings Heist or Hit (Her’s, Eades, Pizzagirl) cruush are set to bring their thoughtform nightscapes to the masses. Clad in the muted tones of charity shop bargains “Whatever’s comfortable luv x” they live out the hospitality misery of working the city’s bars and cafes by day, while their nocturnal selves sell out shows.
splint
splint initially malformed between singer/guitarist Jake Bogacki’s home in Calderdale and the alley-arteries suburbs of South Manchester in 2021. Finding semi-permanent homes in walking distance of one another and settling into formation earlier this year. Citing Television as a founding influence and finding the spirit of Tom Verlaine & Velvet Underground somewhere in the bleary, early hours after late nights, the collapsing furniture and broken boilers of their home city’s mills-turner-rehearsal rooms.
Self-scribed tattoos, dissatisfaction and no taxi far walk homes are what splint is made of.
2022 saw the band releasing the singles Military Procedures and 145 on Nice Swan Records gaining praise from the likes of Steve Lamacq at BBC 6 Music.
