With special guests Lias Saoudi, Anna Wood, Pete Fowler, Sophie Green + more
The first in a new series of real life Social Gathering events in the basement of Little Portland St… A chance to invite some of our wonderful contributors downstairs to read, talk and play music. A Social Gathering Social if you like. Or a Social Gathering Gathering.
Firstly, it’s a great honour to welcome Lias Saoudi back to the bar (the site of a very early Fat White Family gig). His ‘Life Beyond the Neutral Zone’ posts have been part of the backbone of the site, brilliantly written observations of life inside a chaotic band and outside in even more deranged real world. Lias will be reading some of these pieces and will also be in conversation with SG co-founder and White Rabbit Books main dude Lee Brackstone.
Anna Wood is a long standing regular at the bar, another excellent contributor to the Social Gathering and author of one of the most talked about new books this year, ‘Yes Yes More More’ (out now from all good bookshops). We’re delighted Anna is joining us to read from said book (and also some of her writing for us too).
Pete Fowler jumped on one of the first Afterwork Drinks on Twitter for us back in early April 2020. He had a ball – as did everyone else – so he did it the following week as well, then the next, and the next. In total Pete has completed sixty drinks sessions for us on Twitter, programming 180 hours of sublime records and vibes each and every Friday night since we shut up shop for lockdown. Heroic indeed. We’re over the moon to have Pete join us in the actual bar to do it for real from 7pm in the basement. Think we’ll probably give him a mic.
Kickstarting the evening will be Social Gathering editors Robin Turner, Lee Brackstone and Carl Gosling in conversation with one of the first SG writers and chronicler of Lockdown #1, Sophie Green.
Looking forward to seeing you down there. What you drinking, it’s been a while…
