Acclaimed early ‘80s electronic DJ and acid house pioneer, Steve Proctor, guests at Ben Osborne’s new night inspired by the club experimentalism of the ’80’s DIY, post punk period. The night is part of The Social’s series of events celebrating 25 Years since the London music institution moved into its full-time home at Little Portland Street. They are joined by guest DJ, DJ mag editor and author of Renegade Snares, Carl Loben and live act SONLIFE (DSPPR), alongside residents Bobby Bucys, Itchy Soul, Neil Thornton and visual artist Girl In A T-Shirt.

White Trash is a new club that channels influences from similarly named institutions in clubland history. The original White Trash pioneered early 80’s electro in London. Berlin’s White Trash rocked Germany’s new capital in the early 2000s. Guests DJs to date have inlcuded Justin Robertson, Simon Lee (Faze Action), Richard Norris (The Grid/ Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve), Steve Proctor and Carl Loben.

Steve Proctor’s DJ career began in Liverpool in 1980, playing early Electronic music (Kraftwerk, The Human League, Heaven 17), Italo Disco, High Energy and, later, early House Music. Moving to London in 1987, he created Urban, the renowned Rare Groove label, where he released such classics as the Jackson Sisters I Believe In Miracles, and Maceo’s Cross The Tracks. Meanwhile his passion for the new Balearic/Acid House scene led to him being made resident at the legendary SHOOM club and starting his own Acid House club Elysium, at The Limelight. He was headline DJ at the first Sunrise event at the Equestrian Centre, as well as at the famous Guy Fawkes night event at Beckton Gasworks. In January 1989 he decided to go back underground with his own weekly club night, The Promised Land, establishing it as one of the proper Acid House clubs in the country, while becoming a headlining guest in clubs and raves around the country, including The Hacienda and Quadrant Park. Meanwhile Steve returned to the studio, creating such Acid House Classics as Technodelia by Technodelia and Listen To Your Heartbeat by Precinct 13. His catalogue also includes hits such as Can You Dig It? By the Mock Turtles, African and White by China Crisis, and Hippychick by Soho. Steve is amongst a small group of DJs recognised for being responsible for the Acid House and Dance Music explosion across Europe. He’s currently writing his autobiography, while appearing at events he feels still reflect the attitudes and energy of the scene he helped create.

Carl Loben has been a music journalist since the early ‘90s, when he wrote about dance music for Melody Maker. He’s been on the staff at DJ Magazine for the past two decades; where he’s currently the Editor-in-Chief of the world’s biggest electronic music publication. Carl’s interviewed many significant figures and given numerous interviews himself; from Newsround to Newsnight, and lots of points between. His DJ career has taken him to far-flung places and he’s ran record labels, such as Westway and Jack Said What. He’s also produced music, managed acts, and appeared on a multitude of panels.

SONLIFE is a British/Turkish music producer from South East London. His name directly translates from the Turkish words OĞUL (son) and CAN (life). Tonight’s live show follows the recently released debut LP and previews a forthcoming EP release on DSPPR. SONLIFE’s music spans genres from Downtempo to Jazz, and is an amalgamation of live instrumentation, field recordings and samples. The project began as an experimental solo project, trying out new sounds and genres, and has morphed into a live act. SONLIFE are signed to Chris Coco’s new label, DSPPR.

Described as a ‘polymath’ by Time Out, Ben Osborne is a DJ, writer, award winning creative producer and founder of Noise of Art, a collective which marries music with art, film and other disciplines. He DJs internationally and has presented radio shows for Slack City Radio,  Xfm, TotallyRadio and NME Radio. A prolific scribe for magazines such as DJ Mag and newspapers, he’s written books on the history of electronic music and the Arctic Monkeys.

Laser Magnetic and Shoreditch disco veteran Neil Thornton made his mark when he started nights at the infamous Disco Pub in East London, before going on to become chef-de-party at Disappearing Dinning Club. North London’s Itchy Soul crew can be found on Smithfield’s very own Music Box Radio station, as well as DJing at various London hideaways such as the Horatio. In common with other DJs tonight, Bobby Bucys also broadcasts on radio station, Transient Radio. Visuals come courtesy of artist and VJ Girl In A T-Shirt.
