Culture Clash’ is a series of artworks inspired by numerous visits to Tokyo over the last 28 years. Taking Japanese cultural icons and reworking them in James’ own style. The show features new and existing pieces, including collage based artwork, manipulating plastic bags to create new forms. From a carrier bag Hello Kitty, to a Samurai helmet made from pharmaceutical packaging. Some pieces shown for the first time outside of Japan.
’Culture Clash’ was his first solo exhibition in Japan. The show was held at the RFW Showroom, Shibuya, Tokyo, October 2022. The opening event featured very special guest DJ, Mr. Kurino of United Arrows.
